Jean-Jacques Rousseau, einer der bekanntesten Philosophen der Aufklärung lebte von 1712 bis 1778 teilweise in Frankreich und teilweise in der Schweiz. Er war einer der ersten Philosophen, die erkannten, dass „die Natur will, dass Kinder Kinder sind, bevor sie zu Erwachsenen werden”.
